Welcome to Virginia Tech! I am pleased that you will be joining us for your graduate studies, an important stage in your academic and professional development.
This is an exciting time to become a part of the Virginia Tech graduate program. The university has made the continued enhancement of graduate education a top priority, and you will most certainly experience the benefits of that focus. Transformative Graduate Education is providing Virginia Tech students with opportunities to develop the skills and to enhance your ability to excel in careers in academe and professional positions. The Graduate School is attracting a bright and talented group of graduate students with more competitive funding for assistantship stipends, tuition remission, and health insurance benefits. The Graduate Student Assembly and the Graduate School continue working together to build graduate community among the graduate students and faculty by sponsoring academic and social events throughout the year.
At Virginia Tech you will find a vibrant academic community, poised to challenge you to achieve new heights of intellectual engagement, while providing you with the support, tools, and resources to aid in your success. This handbook will familiarize you with these offerings and prepare you to begin your studies. Again, welcome to the Virginia Tech community.
