Your PID (Personal Identifier)
Once you have received your official acceptance from the Graduate School, you will need to create your Personal Identifier or PID. You will use your PID and password to access your VT e-mail account (your e-mail address will be in the form of: Your PID @vt.edu), Hokie SPA, Blackboard, Filebox, My VT, the university libraries' databases, and more. Please visit the VT Computing website for more information on creating your PID and password and to learn more about the online services your PID will grant you access to.
Graduate Student Listserve
Pertinent information of importance to graduate students will be sent by e-mail via the Graduate Student Listserv, grads-bburg@listserv.vt.edu (for Blacksburg students) OR grads-ext@listserv.vt.edu (for students at extended campus locations). This listserv is used only to notify students of timely concerns. Please review any notices sent to you by the Graduate School. A calendar of events and important notices are also posted on the Graduate School website under Announcements and on the Calendar.
GLC Listserve
GLC-programs@listserv.vt.edu, which initially includes all currently enrolled graduate students at the Blacksburg campus, is used to notify graduate students and other interested individuals of the programs and activities in the Graduate Life Center at Donaldson Brown. Notices are posted about other events and activities organized or co-sponsored by the Graduate School or by other campus organizations, if the target audience includes graduate students. Students or other interested individuals may subscribe to or unsubscribe from the list anytime.
Hokie Passport (Student ID Card)
Your Hokie Passport is your Virginia Tech student identification card and is mandatory for all students, faculty, and staff. It is a multipurpose card that is used for building access, checking out books in the library, access to athletic events, as a debit card in numerous retail establishments on and off campus, for vending, copying and laundry machines, for managing dining plan accounts in the dining centers, and for various other functions. Be prepared to show the card to university officials upon request. You will need to bring a picture ID to receive your Hokie Passport. Hokie Passports are issued at the Hokie Passport Office, 100 Student Services Building. Students have to be registered and pay their tuition and comprehensive fees before they can get their ID cards. Contact the Hokie Passport Office at 540/231-5121 or by e-mail at hokiepassport@vt.edu for more information.
