Resources for International Students

Moving to the United States to attend graduate school can be quite a significant adjustment. Virginia Tech has two offices devoted to helping you with this transition, the International Graduate Student Services (IGSS) office in the Graduate School and the Cranwell International Center.

The IGSS provides advice and technical support to international graduate students at Virginia Tech in obtaining and maintaining their non-immigrant visa status in the United States, including travel and work authorization procedures, and general immigration and academic advising.

The Cranwell Center provides social events and activities for the international student and scholar population and their families. Their web site will inform you about upcoming events, student organizations, programs, and other important information.

Together these two organizations have prepared a variety of materials and programs to help you transition to graduate life at Virginia Tech. These services include:

• A comprehensive mailing of pre-arrival information from the IGSS that you will receive via post with your immigration documents.
• A website containing helpful pre-orientation information.
• A week of orientation activities and services designed specifically for international students. Learn more at the Cranwell Center website.
• An orientation program for international and domestic students to welcome them to Virginia Tech and provide information about campus resources.
