Student Health Services
The Schiffert Health Center provides student medical services that are equivalent to those provided by a general family physician. These services are included in the cost of students' Comprehensive Fees. The Center manages immunization and health history requirements for students enrolled in the Blacksburg campus. Students should review the Center's website to confirm that they have received all required immunizations. They should also download and complete the immunization history form, available at the website. Students must return this form by the required deadline (listed on the form), otherwise their accounts may be blocked to prevent class registration. Because of the possibility of serious illness or injury requiring treatment beyond the services of the Schiffert Health Center, students are encouraged to purchase medical insurance for themselves and their families.Virginia Tech offers an insurance plan for all full-time enrolled students. Purchasing this plan is optional for U.S. citizens and permanent residents. International students are required to purchase insurance coverage for the duration of their stay.

The university-sponsored insurance program through GM Southwest is managed by the Student Medical Insurance Office. This office can provide you with detailed information about the health insurance plan, coverage costs, effective dates, and other relevant information. Students may purchase the university health care plan online, by mail after downloading a application, or in person at the Student Medical Insurance Office, which is located at 110 Student Services Building. Medical Insurance Benefits for Students with Assistantships
Students who have a graduate assistantship and have purchased medical insurance may be eligible for medical insurance benefits. Please visit the Graduate School's health insurance webpage for current information.

Fitness Facilities
Take advantage of the two fitness facilities available to students on campus, McComas Hall and War Memorial Hall. Learn more about these facilities, their hours, and their policies at the Recreational Sports webpage. Students' dependents may use the facilities at War Memorial Hall.

Virginia Tech provides a wealth of activities to help you stay active and fit. Recreational Sports offers non-credit instruction, fitness activities, wellness education and assessment, intramural sports, and extramural sports competition for students, faculty, staff, and their families. The Graduate School has partnered with Recreational Sports to offer programs specifically designed for graduate students, including group exercise classes (cardio, yoga, and more), fitness assessment, health education, and various incentives.
