If You Plan to Work
Labor and immigration laws require employers to verify the
nationality and eligibility to work for all employees. American citizens need
only to show citizenship through a driver's license and social security card
or a passport. If you expect to be employed by the university, you will need
to bring the appropriate documents. International students will be able to
apply for a social security card during Orientation. For information about
employment opportunities contact Human
Resources.
Funding Opportunities
Virginia Tech offers numerous opportunities for graduate student funding including assistantships, fellowships, and scholarships. Explore all of these options in detail on the Graduate School's Funding Opportunities pages.
Financial Aid
Graduate students are encouraged to apply for financial aid. Financial aid application packages are available online from Virginia Tech's Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid. Applications should be submitted by the first week of March for the next academic year in order to have the best choice of options; however, applications can be submitted at any time. Federal financial aid is restricted to U. S. citizens and resident aliens. If a student has applied for financial aid and then receives an offer for an assistantship, scholarship, or fellowship, it is important to notify the financial aid counselor as soon as possible.
