Dr. Brian J. Mihalik
Associate Dean of the Graduate School
Dr. Brian J. Mihalik joined the Graduate School in January 2006. Dr. Mihalik assists with the Transformative Graduate Education initiative, coordinates the campus-wide graduate curriculum and degree review process, and works with the VT campus-wide Graduate Curriculum Committee. He also chairs the Graduate School's various awards committees and represents the Graduate School on various university committees and Commissions. Dr. Mihalik also works with the dean and associate dean making admission decisions, counseling faculty and students, interpreting policies and procedures, and assisting with the day-to-day management of the Graduate School.
Dr. Mihalik holds a B.S. in business administration, one master's in Instructional Communications and a second master's degree in Recreation Education from Syracuse University. He holds an Ed.D. from Temple University. Before joining the faculty at Virginia Tech, Dr. Mihalik served as Graduate Coordinator at Oklahoma State University, Department Head and Graduate Coordinator at the State University of New York College at Brockport, and was Department Head of the VT Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management, currently housed in the Pamplin College of Business. He has been involved in multiple Study Abroad programs at Tech including leading classes to CESA and Punta Cana, DR. His area of research is the Olympic Games, resident perceptions of the Games, and the impacts of physical legacies resulting from the Olympics.
