Services from the Graduate School Recruiting Office
The recruitment of graduate students is conducted by the various departments and by the Graduate School. The Office of Graduate Student Recruiting provides services to departments to assist in their recruiting efforts. These services include:
- Providing limited financial support for faculty involved in recruiting through the office of the Vice Provost for Graduate Studies and Dean of the Graduate School
- Providing materials for recruitment fairs and contacts - power point presentations for domestic and international students, copies of Graduate Study Information Sheets, contact cards, travel-size display board, and table covers
- Providing promotional materials for recruitment - pens, highlighters
- Assisting in the development of departmental recruiting plans and presentations
- Disseminating information about graduate study at Virginia Tech to local, national, and international institutions and organizations
- Administrative support for recording of information from recruitment cards into Banner and dissemination of the information to appropriate departments
- Providing copies of publications from the Council of Graduate Schools on recruiting and retaining graduate students- Achieving an Inclusive Graduate Community, Recruiting for Success, Ensuring Success and On the Right Track: A Manual for Research Mentors
- Providing names of prospective graduate students from national lists - GEM, McNair
- Presentations to students regarding aspects of the graduate school application process
- Open House Programs and Campus Tours for prospective students
- Representation of Virginia Tech at various local and national Graduate and Professional School Day Programs
- Dissemination of information to prospective students and maintenance of the Virginia Tech site on graduate school search engines - GraduateSchool.com and Gradschools.com
