Departmental Options: How to Apply

Students should apply to a department that is consistent with their background: computer science graduates to the Computer Science department, life sciences graduates to Biology or Biochemistry, etc.

Each department has its own graduate degree requirements, which may be more specific than the requirements of the Graduate School. Please contact the admissions staff in the department in which you are applying for further information regarding their admissions requirements. Applicants are strongly encouraged to apply online to Virginia Tech's Graduate School.
